Reijnders, who was transferred from AZ last summer, immediately secured a starting spot with the Rossoneri, who ended a disappointing streak against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday. Four days later, they visited Lecce, and Olivier Giroud, the matchwinner against PSG, opened the scoring for Milan after nearly half an hour.

Then, Reijnders took center stage. In the 35th minute, he scored his first goal in Italian service, following in the footsteps of Ruud Gullit. Gullit was the last Dutch player to score for Milan against Lecce on April 7, 1991, also at Via del Mare. Shortly after making it 0-2, Reijnders was again close to scoring, but his shot hit the crossbar.

Despite this, Milan seemed comfortably on course for their eighth league win of the season. However, thanks to substitute Sansone, who entered the game in the 63rd minute, Lecce managed to level the score within five minutes. Three minutes after his introduction, Sansone scored the 1-2 himself, and four minutes later, he assisted Lameck Banda's goal for the 2-2 equalizer.

The visitors were thrown off balance, while Lecce still believed in a victory. They almost achieved it too. A header from Sansone hit the crossbar. In the final stages, AC Milan was reduced to ten men after a red card for Giroud, and shortly after, Roberto Piccoli scored from a long distance. However, the joy at Lecce was short-lived as the goal was disallowed due to an offensive foul.
