Daniel Alves with a new defense strategy: claims intoxication

The legal case involving Brazilian football star Daniel Alves has taken a new turn, as reported by various Spanish publications. 

Alves, who is currently facing allegations of rape, has introduced a new defense strategy by claiming that he was intoxicated during the incident. This latest claim marks the fifth different version of the events he has provided since the allegations surfaced.

Alves' defense, led by lawyer Inés Guardiola, is pursuing a strategy that aims to mitigate the potential sentence by emphasizing the player's alleged state of intoxication. Guardiola coach of Manchester City, has stated that Alves "was not fully aware of what he was doing" at the time of the incident, which could potentially influence the severity of the sentence if he is found guilty. As part of this defense, Guardiola plans to present evidence of the amount of alcohol consumed by Alves on the night in question, presumably to demonstrate the level of his intoxication.

In a further development, the defense team is seeking to involve Alves' ex-wife, Joana Sanz, in the case. They want her to testify regarding other instances of Alves' intoxication, which could potentially support their argument about his state during the alleged incident.

The trial, which is set to take place from February 5 to 7, is drawing significant attention. The Public Prosecutor's Office is advocating for a nine-year prison sentence, while the alleged victim is demanding a twelve-year term.
