De Jong: 'The story that we never correct each other has taken on a life of its own'

Frenkie de Jong disagrees with the idea that the current generation of players cannot be tough enough on each other. According to the 26-year-old midfielder from Barcelona, the internationals do coach each other in the Dutch national team.

The lack of corrective ability has been a significant topic of discussion following the disappointing Nations League campaign and in the lead-up to the crucial European Championship qualification matches against Greece and Ireland this week.

Head coach Ronald Koeman mentioned it during his press conference on Monday, saying, "It's all very friendly when you see them come in, but you also need to be tough on each other. Especially in moments like against Italy."

De Jong was asked about it during the press event on Wednesday afternoon. He responded, "That story has also taken on a life of its own, that we supposedly never correct each other. I think that's not true. There is certainly room for improvement, and we are aware of that. But it's not like we never did it. If someone doesn't fulfill their responsibilities, you have to give them a kick. But you don't need to provide commentary on every bad pass."
