Pep Guardiola admitted on Wednesday that he doesn't know if Ederson will be with the team next season, as the Brazilian goalkeeper from Manchester City has received offers from Saudi Arabia.
Al Ittihad is interested in him after Al Nassr, which features Luís Castro, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Otávio, failed to secure his signing.
"I don't know if Ederson will stay. He has to make a decision," he commented after City was defeated by Celtic (3-4) in a preseason match held in the United States.
According to the international press, the former goalkeeper of Ribeirão, Rio Ave, and Benfica has already agreed to move to Al Ittihad. Now, the Saudi club, which features players like Karim Benzema, Fabinho, N’Golo Kanté, and the Portuguese player Jota, needs to reach an agreement with the four-time English champions.
Manchester City is reportedly demanding between 50 and 60 million euros to sell the 30-year-old Ederson, who has spent seven seasons at the Etihad, winning a total of 17 titles, including one Champions League and six Premier League titles.
Ederson's potential move to Al Ittihad would mark a significant shift in his career, moving from one of the top leagues in Europe to the rapidly growing football scene in Saudi Arabia. Al Ittihad has been actively bolstering its squad with high-profile signings in recent months, aiming to elevate its status both domestically and internationally.
Ederson, known for his exceptional shot-stopping ability, distribution, and composure under pressure, has been a key figure in Manchester City's success under Guardiola. His departure would leave a considerable void in the squad, prompting City to seek a suitable replacement who can perform at the highest level.
The Brazilian goalkeeper's move would also highlight the increasing financial power of Saudi Arabian clubs in attracting top talent from Europe. This trend has been on the rise, with several prominent players opting for moves to the Middle Eastern country, lured by lucrative contracts and new challenges.
As negotiations continue, all eyes will be on Ederson's decision and how Manchester City plans to navigate this potential transition. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the final outcome of this high-profile transfer saga.
