Grosso has signed a two-season contract with Lyon, marking his return to his former club. As a player, the Italian was under contract with Lyon from 2007 to 2009.
The 2006 World Cup champion with Italy began his coaching career five years ago. After working in the youth setup of Juventus, he took on coaching roles at Bari, Hellas Verona, Brescia, FC Sion, and Frosinone.
At Frosinone, Grosso demonstrated his coaching abilities last season. He won the Serie B championship and secured promotion to the top tier of Italian football. This summer, he surprised everyone by suddenly stepping down. 'He sent me a text saying he had a great time here but didn't feel like continuing,' said Frosinone president Maurizio Stirpe. 'He didn't provide any further reasons.'
Now, Grosso faces the challenge of getting things back on track at Lyon. After a disastrous start to the season, Blanc was dismissed. Lyon is currently at the bottom of Ligue 1 after four matches with just one point.
