Roma coach Mourinho has been fond of the midfielder for a while, who was a key player during Portugal's victory in the 2016 European Championship. Mourinho tried to bring Sanches to Manchester United back in 2016 but missed out. Sanches signed with Bayern Munich.
"We were just a little late for Renato at that time because I only joined the club in May," Mourinho recalled years ago on Sport TV. "If we had been earlier, I would have fought for him. I had seen him play a lot at home as I watched many matches in the Portuguese league. That's how I already knew him well."
Seven years later, Mourinho has finally succeeded. Sanches wasn't a regular starter for PSG last season, making a transfer a possibility for the Parisian club.
"I am so happy to have signed for this great club," Sanches stated in the press release. "I believe in the Roma project, and I feel that I need to play here at this point in my career. The support from the fans is overwhelming."
Earlier in the day, AS Roma had already announced the transfer of Leandro Paredes.
