The match at Molineux was originally scheduled for December 23rd but has been pushed one day later to accommodate the wishes of the broadcasters. When the initial reports emerged, there was already a lot of controversy. The FSA, which represents English supporter groups, expressed its dismay in a statement.
This has had no effect: Wolves vs. Chelsea will be moved to December 24th. The match won't actually be played in the evening but will kick off at 2:00 PM. Nonetheless, fans are not pleased with this decision.
The last (and so far the only) time a Premier League match was played on Christmas Eve was in 1995 when Leeds United beat Manchester United 3-1.
Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year. There are no matches on Monday (Christmas Day) in England, but there are five matches scheduled for Boxing Day. Furthermore, there will be Premier League football on December 27th, December 28th, December 30th, December 31st, January 1st, and January 2nd.
