Real Madrid flop shines at Milan: 'His talent is indisputable, but sometimes he forgets that'

Does Luka Jovic finally fulfill his promise? That's the question posed by the Italian sports newspapers, as the Serbian striker once again proved his worth for AC Milan in the cup match against Cagliari (4-1) on Tuesday night.

Jovic's remarkable contribution to Milan's recent matches underscores his prowess in front of goal.

Despite missing an early opportunity, the Serbian forward more than made up for it in the latter part of the first half by scoring twice, both times assisted by the standout performer Theo Hernández. These goals mark Jovic's first two of the year 2024, adding to the impressive tally of five goals in his last six matches for Milan. Notably, he had already found the back of the net three times in Serie A during December.

This resurgence for Jovic in Italy, following his less successful stint at Real Madrid, reveals that he is continuing to showcase his goal-scoring capabilities for the second consecutive season. In the previous season with Fiorentina, he notched thirteen goals across all competitions, and now, at Milan, he seems to be seamlessly continuing his goal-scoring form after overcoming initial challenges. Such a stellar performance has rightfully earned him a prominent place on the front pages of Italian sports newspapers.

Stefano Pioli, Milan's manager, has consistently expressed his belief in Jovic's abilities, harking back to the Serbian striker's sensational 27-goal season with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018/19. Pioli remarked, 'He has tremendous qualities; he just needs to believe in himself more. When he arrived here, he wasn't fit. Now, he feels physically and mentally well, and he needs to continue in this manner.'

If Jovic can sustain this remarkable form, Milan may find it compelling to exercise the one-year option in his expiring contract. This would obviate the need for the club to delve into the transfer market to secure a replacement for the soon-to-be 37-year-old Olivier Giroud, whose contract is also approaching its conclusion.

Gazzetta notes the impressiveness of Jovic's current performance, stating, 'His talent is indisputable, but sometimes he forgets that.' The focus on consistency and self-belief is emphasized, pointing to the potential longevity of Jovic's impact at Milan.
