Four consecutive losses and a position on the table that would mean a spot in the promotion/relegation play-offs at the end of the season. The fallen giant, Schalke 04, is enduring a dramatic season in the second tier of German football.

The new coach, Geraerts, could certainly use the three points in his first match at the Veltins Arena. His team fought their way to a 3-2 victory against Hannover 96 in Gelsenkirchen.

After the match, Geraerts emphasized the effort his team had put in. 'I saw belief, intensity, and a team playing together. That's what I wanted to see; this was a small step,' the Belgian coach commented on Sky.

After the match, goal-scorer Kenan Karaman is primarily filled with relief. The Turkish player candidly says, 'A burden has been lifted off my shoulders. It's been a few tough weeks. Today, we wanted to repay the fans.'

"People always support us tremendously. I am very happy that everyone who loves Schalke can go home with a good feeling today," concludes the forward who was responsible for the 3-1 goal.

With this victory, Schalke 04 hasn't made significant progress in the standings and is still in the relegation zone, sitting in the sixteenth position. Next week, the seven-time league champion can slowly but surely move away from the bottom regions with a win against 1. FC Nürnberg.
