Leipzig secured their second victory of the season. The club lost their first match against Bayer Leverkusen. Union, captained by Danilho Doekhi, suffered their first defeat of the season and, like Leipzig, also has 6 points.

Only Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich remain undefeated after three matches.

In the 51st minute, Simons received the ball from Benjamin Henrichs and scored with a well-placed shot into the upper right corner. It was Simons' second goal in the Bundesliga. The former PSV player, who will join the Dutch national team for the European Championship qualifiers on Monday, sent Benjamin Sesko on his way in the 85th minute, resulting in the 2-0 goal. Sesko later added the third goal for the visitors.

Union was reduced to ten men by that time. Kevin Volland received a red card in the 64th minute after a foul on Mohamed Simakan.
