Spurs strike late: much-discussed Richarlison denies Hamer the hero's role

It could have been Gustavo Hamer's day. The Dutchman seemed to be leading Sheffield United to a huge upset away at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but thanks to Richarlison, the North Londoners turned the match around deep into injury time (2-1).

In the 72nd minute, a deflected corner landed at Hamer's feet, who didn't hesitate and took a shot. The Dutchman saw his effort hit the inside of the post and go past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario (see the goal below). It seemed very likely that this would be enough to give Sheffield their first victory of the season. Until the eighth minute of injury time arrived.

Spurs had been pressing for some time, but seemed unable to get past Wesley Foderingham. It was Richarlison, of all players, who was responsible for the equalizer (1-1). His goal was crucial not only for Spurs but also for the Brazilian himself. In an interview earlier this week, Richarlison mentioned he was considering seeking psychological help.

The misery didn't end there for the unfortunate Sheffield. Two minutes after the equalizer, Dejan Kulusevski sealed the fate of the visitors. The Swedish forward deceived Foderingham again, securing Spurs' fourth win in five matches. The assist? Richarlison. With this victory, Spurs now sit in second place behind leaders Manchester City.
